Trainerize vs a Branded Coaching App: Which Is Right for You?

Trainerize vs a Branded Coaching App: Which Is Right for You?

Pick Trainerize if you program workouts and nutrition for 1:1 or small-group fitness clients and want proven tools at a low monthly price. Pick a branded coaching app if your method is a daily practice members follow for months, and you want the store listing, the member data and the AI that answers in your voice to belong to you.

I checked every Trainerize figure below against its own pricing and feature pages on 9 October 2026. I also build one of the alternatives, so I say plainly where Trainerize is the better buy.

Tribed is coaching infrastructure that gives a coach their own branded app: member accounts, content delivery, progress tracking, community, payments, App Store distribution and an AI trained on the coach's method, all published under the coach's name. That is the "branded coaching app" side of this comparison.

What is the real difference between Trainerize and a branded coaching app?

Trainerize is a fitness coaching platform you can brand. A branded coaching app is a product built around your method that ships under your own name. The first gives you excellent workout, nutrition and habit tools with your logo on top. The second gives you the listing, the member relationship and the delivery model, shaped around how you coach.

ABC Trainerize is software for trainers and gyms. Its core is programming: an exercise library, custom client programs, meal and macro tracking, wearable integrations, messaging and challenges. Branding is an add-on layer over that core.

A branded coaching app starts from the other end. The question is what your member does every morning, and the app is built to deliver that: a day-by-day program, lessons, check-ins, community, payments and progress records. If your method is lifting and macros, those two descriptions overlap almost completely. If your method is a marriage program, a midlife health protocol or a mindset practice, they do not.

What does Trainerize cost in 2026, including the branded app?

Trainerize's plan cards list Basic free for 1 client, Grow at $9 a month, Pro 5 at $23 a month and Studio Plus at $248 a month per location, checked on its pricing page in October 2026. The Pro custom branded app adds a one-time $169 setup fee. Studio includes it.

Three cautions before you budget from those numbers:

  1. The page disagrees with itself. The same pricing page's comparison table and FAQ quote different figures, including Pro starting at $25 and Studio Plus at $275. Get the number in writing before you sign.
  2. Pro scales by client count. Pro 5 covers 5 clients, with seat tiers running 15, 30, 50, 75, 100 and 200. Your bill rises as your roster grows.
  3. Apple charges separately. A Studio-level app needs your own Apple Developer account, which Apple prices at $99 per membership year. Enrolling a business also requires a D-U-N-S number.

I broke down the full cost picture across agencies, platforms and store fees in how much a coaching app costs in 2026.

Does a Trainerize branded app get its own App Store listing?

Only on Studio and above. Trainerize's custom branded app page says the Pro-level app uses an "ABC Trainerize shared Apple Store listing" with your own Google Play listing. Studio gets its own listing on both stores, published from your own Apple Developer account.

That detail matters more than any feature list. On a shared listing, the iPhone client searching the App Store finds the vendor's page, with the vendor's reviews. On your own listing, every review and every install accrues to your name, and the listing is an asset you can keep building for years.

Apple's rules push in the same direction. Guideline 4.2.6 of the App Store Review Guidelines says apps made from a commercial template or app generation service "will be rejected unless they are submitted directly by the provider of the app's content." In practice, a real listing under your name means your own developer account, whoever builds the app.

I wrote the longer version of this ownership test in what a white-label coaching app actually is.

When is Trainerize the better choice?

Trainerize is the better choice when your coaching is workout programming, your roster is under a few dozen clients, and you want proven tools today at a low monthly price. Its exercise library and programming builder are better than what I build, and I would send a coach in that position to Trainerize.

Choose Trainerize if most of these are true:

  1. You write training programs. Sets, reps, progressions and exercise videos are the product.
  2. You track macros and wearables. Trainerize has meal and macro tracking from the Grow plan and integrates with wearables.
  3. You run a gym or studio. Studio Plus is built for locations, group video calls and prospect booking.
  4. You are still testing demand. At $9 to $23 a month, it is the cheapest way to deliver a program in an app while you find out if people stay.

When does a branded coaching app make more sense?

A branded coaching app makes more sense when your method is more than workouts, when members follow it daily for months, and when you want the store listing, member data and AI support to belong to your business. The trigger is usually a coach who has outgrown the template.

Look for these signals:

  1. Your method is a daily practice. Lessons, reflections, habits and check-ins matter as much as the training block.
  2. Members ask the same questions at night. An AI trained on your own library can answer them in your voice while you sleep.
  3. Your audience is bigger than your roster. You want a subscription people buy from a listing, not only clients you onboard by hand.
  4. You care whose name is on the listing. Your reviews, your installs, your exportable member records.

Health and fitness is a strong category for this model. Adapty's State of In-App Subscriptions 2026, built on 16,000 apps, reports that Health and Fitness leads all categories on trial-to-paid conversion at 35.0% and is the only category where annual plans dominate, at 60.6% of revenue.

Here is what that looks like on Tribed. The 80/10/10 Diet by Dr. Douglas Graham is live in the App Store under its own brand. In Dr. Graham's words: "After thirty years teaching this work, I needed a home for it that wasn't owned by a social network." If you are unsure you are ready for that step, I wrote who should launch a coaching app, and who should not.

Trainerize vs a branded coaching app, side by side

The short version: Trainerize wins on programming depth and entry price, a branded coaching app wins on ownership and on delivering a method that is more than training.

  • Built for: Trainerize serves personal trainers, online fitness coaches and gyms. A branded coaching app serves any expert with a method, fitness or not.
  • Core strength: Trainerize leads on workout programming, nutrition tracking and wearables. A branded app leads on daily method delivery, community and AI support in your voice.
  • App Store listing: Trainerize Pro shares the ABC Trainerize Apple listing. Trainerize Studio and a branded coaching app both publish under your own account.
  • Entry cost: Trainerize starts at $9 to $23 a month plus a $169 branded app fee on Pro. Branded coaching apps vary widely, from platform fees to agency builds.
  • Who it fits best: Trainerize fits a programming-first coach. A branded coaching app fits a coach whose method is the product.

What should you check before you switch?

Check three things before you move off Trainerize or onto it: whose developer account the app ships from, whether you can export member emails and progress records, and what your monthly bill is with every add-on switched on at your target client count.

  1. Ask for the listing in writing. Which store listings carry your business name on your plan.
  2. Export a test file. Pull your client list and history before you commit, so you know what leaving looks like.
  3. Price your next 12 months. Multiply the seat tier you expect to reach, then add every add-on you would use.

FAQ

Is Trainerize a white-label app?

Partly. On Pro, the branded app costs a one-time $169 fee and shares the ABC Trainerize Apple listing. On Studio plans, the app is white-labeled with its own App Store and Google Play listings under your brand.

How much does a Trainerize custom branded app cost?

Trainerize lists the Pro-level custom branded app at a one-time $169 fee on top of the monthly plan. It is included on Studio plans, which need your own Apple Developer account at $99 a year.

Can I use Trainerize for coaching that is not fitness?

You can, but it is built for training and nutrition. Its exercise library, workout builder and macro tracking are the core. Mindset, relationship or health-protocol coaches usually fit better in an app built around lessons and daily practice.

Do I need my own Apple Developer account for a branded app?

For your own App Store listing, yes. Apple charges $99 per membership year, and enrolling a business requires a D-U-N-S number. Trainerize Pro avoids this by using a shared Apple listing.

Can I move my clients from Trainerize to my own app?

Yes, if you plan it. Export your client list and history first, then invite members into the new app with a clear start date. The shared Apple listing does not move with you.
